Sugar Cookies
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1-1/2 cups confectioner's sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Mix thoroughly butter, confectioner's sugar, egg,
vanilla and almond extract. Blend in flour, soda
and cream of tartar. Cover; chill 2 to 3 hours.
Heat oven to 375°. Divide dough in half. Roll
each half 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured cloth-
covered board. Cut into desired shapes. Place on
lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 7 to 8 minutes
or until light brown on edges. Cool, and then frost.
About 5 dozen 2 to 2-1/2 inch cookies.
Easy Creamy Icing
Mix 2 cups confectioner's sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt,
1 teaspoon vanilla and about 3 tablespoons milk until
smooth and of spreading consistency.
Tint with food color if desired.
