Came to Wichita, KS as a young woman, where she married James Archibald Lewis on 01/10/1905 at the Procathedral in Wichita. They owned and operated the Steele-Lewis Hardware Company in Wichita all their lives, later to turn it over to their sons James and Bernard, and then later to James' son.

came to Wichita from Illinois to help a family from Illinois who had moved to Wichita.

Moved to Wichita in 1901 from Palmyra, NE. He didn't have much money, just enough to get a ticket to Clearwater, KS. He obtained a job there and one day a Mr. Steele came in. In the course of conversation, he offered him a job at his store in Wichita, at Steele Hardware. He took it and eventually became part owner. He became full owner when Mr. Steele died.

The 1910 Census of Wichita City lists him as a salesman. It says his father was English and his mother was Irish.
