GARDEN PLAIN - Jaax, Doris Barbara Winter, 69, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 23, 2006, after a life of faithfully serving her family and community. Mrs. Jaax was born in Andale, Kansas, and graduated from Andale High School in 1955. She was employed as a secretary for Globe Oil Company until 1959. Mrs. Jaax devoted much of her life to her six children, community, and church. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Altar Society, Lake Afton EHU, and Farm Wives of America. She was an active volunteer in the Catholic Church's RCIA program and with the Center of Hope. From 1996 to 2002, she served the Adorers of the Blood of Christ Convent as cook and baker. Mrs. Jaax is survived by her husband of 48 years, Edward K. Jaax of Garden Plain, and their children: E.J. Jaax and wife Karen of Bandera, Texas; Bryan Jaax and wife Susan of Wichita; Lt. Col. Todd Jaax and wife Dana of Mary Esther, Fla.; Ross Jaax and wife Aryany of Saigon, Vietnam; Sara Jaax and husband Marty Benson of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Amy Jaax Carlton and husband Chris of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Eathan, Edward, Elizabeth, Jenna, McKenzie, Evan, Mallory, Molly, Luke, Emma, Jack, and Ryan. Other survivors include her siblings: Marian Stump of Kansas City, Kansas; Darlene Burke of Wichita; and Clement Winter of Wichita; and her dear mother, Charlotte Winter Patzell of Manhattan, Kansas. Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, September 25. Funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, St. Anthony's Church, Garden Plain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Arrangements by Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain.
